The lesson presents 20 frequently used Korean expressions in four groups: meeting people, daily social exchanges, apologies and time-of-day greetings, and answers such as yes, no, and maybe.

1. Greetings, goodbyes, and thanks - ์•ˆ๋…•ํ•˜์„ธ์š” means โ€œHello.โ€ It is formal and is appropriate for a professor, teacher, parent, or a first meeting. A small bow is natural when saying it. - ์•ˆ๋…•ํžˆ ๊ฐ€์„ธ์š” means โ€œGoodbyeโ€ to someone who is leaving. It is formal and is also used with a small bow. - ์•ˆ๋…• is an informal hello or goodbye for friends. - ๊ฐ์‚ฌํ•ฉ๋‹ˆ๋‹ค means โ€œThank youโ€ in a formal situation. ๊ณ ๋งˆ์›Œ is an informal โ€œThank youโ€ used between friends.

2. Asking about people and meeting again - ์–ด๋–ป๊ฒŒ ์ง€๋‚ด์š”? means โ€œHow are you?โ€ or โ€œWhatโ€™s up?โ€ in a polite form. With a friend, ์–ด๋–ป๊ฒŒ ์ง€๋‚ด? is informal. - ์ž˜ ์ง€๋‚ด์š” means โ€œIโ€™m doing well.โ€ - ๋งŒ๋‚˜์„œ ๋ฐ˜๊ฐ€์›Œ์š” means โ€œNice to meet you.โ€ The informal form is ๋งŒ๋‚˜์„œ ๋ฐ˜๊ฐ€์›Œ. - ์˜ค๋žœ๋งŒ์ด์—์š” means โ€œItโ€™s been a long time.โ€ Friends may also say ์•ผ, meaning something like โ€œLong time!โ€ - ๋˜ ๋งŒ๋‚˜์š” means โ€œSee you again.โ€ With a friend, ๋˜ ๋งŒ๋‚˜ is informal. ์šฐ๋ฆฌ๋Š” ๋˜ ๋งŒ๋‚˜์š” means โ€œLetโ€™s meet again.โ€

3. Apologies, reassurance, and greetings for the day - ์ฃ„์†กํ•ฉ๋‹ˆ๋‹ค means โ€œIโ€™m sorryโ€ in a formal situation, for example after accidentally breaking something in a shop. ๋ฏธ์•ˆํ•ด is the informal form for friends. - ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์•„์š” means โ€œItโ€™s okay.โ€ - ์ข‹์€ ์•„์นจ means โ€œGood morning.โ€ It can be said cheerfully to everyone. - ์ž˜ ์ž์š” means โ€œGood nightโ€ or literally โ€œSleep wellโ€ in a polite form. ์ž˜ ์ž is informal and is used with friends.

4. Agreeing, liking, disagreeing, and uncertainty - ๊ทธ๋ž˜์š” means โ€œYesโ€ or โ€œThatโ€™s soโ€ in a polite form. ๊ทธ๋ž˜ is informal. - ์ข‹์•„์š” means โ€œI like itโ€ or โ€œGood.โ€ ์ข‹์•„ is informal. ์งฑ ์ข‹์•„ means โ€œI really like it.โ€ - ๋งž์•„์š” means โ€œThatโ€™s rightโ€ or โ€œThatโ€™s true.โ€ ๋งž์•„ is informal. - ์•„๋‹ˆ์—์š” means โ€œNoโ€ or โ€œThatโ€™s not soโ€ in a polite form. The informal form is ์•„๋‹ˆ, not ์•„๋‹ˆ์—. - ์•„๋งˆ๋„์š” means โ€œMaybeโ€ in a polite form. ์•„๋งˆ๋„ is informal.

These expressions are useful in everyday Korean. Learning the difference between polite and informal endings helps speakers choose language that fits the relationship and situation.
